PAM Astronomy Roundtable: “When do we stop listening?” (and other astronomical conundrums/challenges) (SM08)
Monday, June 9, 2025
9:45 AM – 10:45 AM ET
Target Audience: Moderate Industry Knowledge
This session will be the premier annual event for astronomy and other science librarians at the SLA Annual Conference. This Astronomy Roundtable is a moderated discussion of thought-provoking ideas about librarianship in astronomy and related fields. 1. When do we stop listening for transmissions from all the NASA mission probes and explorations? Is it a funding issue, an outdated technology issue, or both? Or AI? 2. Update on downsizing & reorganization of Astronomy Libraries. Discuss where we are now that several are dispersed. 3. Solar flares: Given the Solar Cycle 25 maximum we are in, could they wipe out all our telescopes and satellites? How do we control, stop, or mitigate the damage (assuming we survive the worst.)
