As an embedded business librarian at the University of San Diego, I rely heavily on virtual reference services, specifically email communications, to serve the faculty, students, and staff in the Knauss School of Business. Email communications can be an effective way to assist patrons by communicating information about the library or to answer a quick question about library resources.
However, when research questions are complex and require long instructions, is email the best method for assisting patrons? How can librarians enhance information literacy skills and address the knowledge gap when virtual reference tools become ineffective? In this talk, I will discuss a new service I began in 2024 with customized videos to guide students and faculty in the use of library databases and library services.
